I was able to open my Sound Settings via Control Panel and switch to the Playback tab and right click on any one of the other devices listed and choose "Set as Default Device" and then Spotify would play normal, but obviously I could not hear anything since this was not the device connected to my speakers.

Running as admin did temporarily fix it as reported have the Asus Xonar DG Audio sound card and software which seems to be the common thread for all of us here. My experience was identical to the rest of the folks here and my fix was the same. Logged into a different account, it also doesn't work. Changed streaming quality between Automatic, Normal, High, and Very High. Played different playlists, downloaded and non downloaded, random songs. Tried playing it on the web player (it works on the web) Deleted all files I could find associated with Spotify when uninstalling (including the ones under ProgramData and AppData/Roaming) Uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify desktop (Both downloaded and the one on Microsoft Store) I hardly had issues playing songs on the app before in the past (Been using Spotify on this computer for >4 years). I tried playing back the same playlist, but it just quickly skips through the songs one by one and stops playing altogether. I was playing music on my Spotify Desktop app when it suddenly cut out by itself. Playback issues on devices with Xonar so.
